sat. 7 feb - a note on infrastructure

Just wanted to say something short on the road network in Kigali. The problem when getting around in this town is not really the distances but they way the roads are layed out. Kigali is mostly situated on the hill tops and the roads don't connect between the hills very well. Yesterday me and some colleagues from work were going to a newly opened bar/restaurant to watch a film. I know it sounds strange but they have a big screen and you can bring the films that you wanna see and they'll show it for free. Good idea I think!

Anyway me and another girl went together and didn't really know where it was so we asked the taxidriver and he said he knew the place. After a while (remember that it's pitch dark here at night!) we noticed that we were out in the bush. Well maybe not in the bush but on a very bad dirt road with noting but grass and bushes all round. We crossed a small bridge built of nothing but a couple of tree logs layed out next to each other. We thought the driver must be lost but all of a sudden, on top of a very steep hill we saw some lights. This was apparently the place. The fact that we got there without a 4 wheel drive is a mystery and now I know why all the taxis look and sound like they're going to fall apart any minute.

The place was very nice but the projector was broken that night. Not a surprise when you've been here a while! We had a good time anyway.
